How to use the time adder

Enter hours and minutes for each time entry you want to add. The calculator updates instantly. To track seconds as well, toggle "Include seconds" at the top of the calculator.

Common use cases

How time addition works

The math is straightforward but easy to get wrong manually. When seconds exceed 60, carry to minutes. When minutes exceed 60, carry to hours.

Example

1:30:25 + 2:45:55
Add seconds: 25 + 55 = 80. Since 80 ≥ 60, carry: 80 − 60 = 20 seconds, add 1 to minutes.
Add minutes: 30 + 45 + 1 = 76. Since 76 ≥ 60, carry: 76 − 60 = 16 minutes, add 1 to hours.
Add hours: 1 + 2 + 1 = 4.
Total: 4:16:20

These two tools solve different problems:

Time AdderRaw durations (HH:MM)Task tracking, recipe times, training intervals

Converting between time formats

If your input is in decimal hours (like a timer output: 1.75), convert before entering: multiply the decimal part by 60. So 1.75 hours = 1 hour 45 minutes. For the reverse, our Hours Calculator has a built-in Decimal tab.

Things people actually ask.

Enter each time duration in the hours and minutes fields. The calculator sums them all and shows the total in both HH:MM:SS format and decimal hours. For example, 1:30 + 2:45 + 0:15 = 4:30, or 4.50 decimal hours.
The Hours Calculator works with start and end times (e.g., 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM). The Time Adder works with raw time durations (e.g., 1:30 worked on Task A, 2:15 on Task B). Use the Time Adder when you already know each duration and just want to sum them.
Yes. Toggle the "Include seconds" checkbox at the top of the calculator. The seconds column appears for each row, and the calculator handles carrying over from seconds to minutes and minutes to hours automatically.
Up to 20 rows. Use the Add Row button to insert more, or the × button on any row to remove it. The total updates instantly as you type — no need to press a calculate button.
Yes. The Print button generates a clean printable summary (also useful for saving as PDF). The Email button opens your default email client with the results pre-filled, ready to send to yourself or anyone else.
Multiply the decimal portion by 60. So 1.75 hours = 1 hour and 0.75 × 60 = 45 minutes = 1:45. For full bidirectional conversion, use the Decimal tab on the Hours Calculator.
